CONSTRUCTION!
While the Soper-Reese goes through Stage Two
on the road to completion as a Top-Notch
Community Theatre,
we will be trying to keep a running account on this page.

soper-reese, ready for stage two

The back curtain is down, and the walls of the
dressing rooms have been removed, revealing
the ad-hoc furniture the performers have
valiantly been using.

planning work on the soper-reese stage
On the first day of the second stage, March 11, 2009!.
You can see the framework that held curtain and lights for the last year lying on the ground, the movable seats piled up and covered. Carpenters are studying the plans for the sides of the stage and for moving the doorframes upward to account for that.
3d virtual model of the Soper-Reese Community Theatre
Digital model of the finished theater, without the seats or roof, which will be included in the finished work. The width of the stage-high paths on either side will be wider, and the stage front will be straight.

Bert Hutt, Artsitic Director of the Soper-Reese Community Theatre, conferring about the floor of the new stage. The new extra-large door to the loading dock is behind him. The new floor is raised in order to be above the 100-year FEMA flood height.

The foundation for the new dressing rooms. The former south-west exit is temporarily boarded up, and will be the entry to the dressing rooms. 5/23/2009
Soper-Reese south digging done
The ground is stripped, the stone garden walls are gone, and the sewer drain for the new dressing rooms has been put in. The dark black material on the lower part of the walls is a water barrier to make the theater flood-proof to 36 inches. The exit, formerly at ground level, will have an extensive wheelchair ramp.
Soper-Reese rear West facade 5/09
The FEMA-designated 100 year flood level is clear to see at the top of the black waterproof layer. The north-west exit has been raised to the new stage height, and a larger door opening cut. There will be a loading platform of that same height. 5/23/2009
