LAKE COUNTY ARTS COUNCIL
Links to Artists in Lake County

Hi,

I am not sure what you want to know but here is a little information. My

artistic background is very limited. I only did clay figures in a high

school art class. To avoid the potential of being drafted I joined the Navy

and served 10 years in the submarine service. This led to a fondness for the

ocean, and we have camped over near Fort Bragg (at Westport mostly) for many

years. I have enjoyed building things around the house with wood so I guess

you can say that working with driftwood combines both. Shortly before

quiting my job as a controls specialist in the Geysers last year, I mentioned

to my wife that I was going to try and make picture frames from driftwood.

She did not think they would be pretty but only the old wood you normally

see would show. She has found out otherwise. My last year was spent as a

Skills Instructor for the developmentally disabled. This gave me time to

develop the techniques needed to make the frames. I am trying to create

functional objects from driftwood and the picture frames are my first try. I

have done a mirror and hope to do lamps or something else as I figure out

how. I think the unique looks from this wood would enhance a picture someone

else has created and I am building a frame to fit a 14 x 44 painting for a

local artist.
